About Us
Natural Niche Perfume is dedicated exclusively to perfume compositions made from 100% natural fragrant materials, without any synthetic fragrance ingredients whatsoever. Every perfume is individually composed by AbdesSalaam Attar and reflects more than four decades spent studying, composing and living with natural fragrant materials.
Alongside the perfume collections, this website brings together articles, educational resources and courses developed over many years. Some visitors arrive looking for a particular fragrance, while others are interested in learning about natural perfumery. Whether you arrive looking for a perfume or for a deeper understanding of natural perfumery, this website brings these different aspects of the same work together in one place.
La Via del Profumo
La Via del Profumo, literally The Way of Perfume, is the name AbdesSalaam Attar chose for his life’s work. It is more than the name of a perfume house. It expresses a way of living with fragrance, where composing perfumes, wearing them, studying natural fragrant materials, discovering their many uses and sharing this experience with others are all part of the same lifelong journey.
For AbdesSalaam Attar, fragrance is not something reserved for perfume. It accompanies everyday life in many forms and has long been part of his way of living, studying and composing. Learning to recognize it, live with it and appreciate its many expressions has been one of the guiding threads of his work for more than four decades.
His perfumes are one expression of that lifelong exploration, inviting us to rediscover a fragrant world that has always been around us, waiting to be noticed.
Beyond the Perfume Compositions
A perfume composition can be appreciated simply by wearing it. Yet every perfume also reflects years of observation, study and direct experience with natural fragrant materials.
For this reason, Natural Niche Perfume is more than a collection of fragrances. Alongside the perfume compositions, it brings together years of research, writing and teaching, making them accessible to anyone wishing to explore natural perfumery more deeply. The perfumes presented on this website are only one part of a much broader body of work. For those who wish to explore further, the following sections offer an introduction to some of the ideas, experience and research that lie behind the perfumes, the writings and the courses.

Who is the perfumer behind Natural Niche Perfume? From France to Italy, through years of research, teaching and composition, this page traces AbdesSalaam Attar’s personal and professional journey and shows how his experience has shaped a unique approach to natural perfumery.
La Via del Profumo: The Way of Perfume
Why La Via del Profumo? More than the name of a perfume house, it expresses a lifelong path in which composing perfumes, living with fragrance, studying natural materials and refining olfactory perception become part of the same journey.
Natural Perfumery
Natural perfumery is often defined simply as perfumery made without synthetic fragrance ingredients. While technically correct, this definition says little about why someone would dedicate an entire life to working exclusively with natural fragrant materials.
For AbdesSalaam Attar, natural perfumery does not begin with a list of ingredients or another. It begins with learning to observe, understand and work with living fragrant materials. Choosing natural materials is not an ideological position, but the natural consequence of a way of perceiving fragrance, composition and the relationship between the perfumer and the materials themselves.
The Art of Perfume Composition
The Art of Perfume Composition is not simply the ability to combine fragrant materials into a pleasing fragrance. For AbdesSalaam Attar, composition begins long before the first formula is written. It grows from years of familiarity with natural fragrant materials, learning their individual character, their affinities and the countless ways they interact. Technique remains essential, but it serves perception rather than replacing it. Every perfume is therefore the result of an ongoing dialogue between the perfumer and the materials themselves.
Why Perfumer-Composer rather than simply Perfumer? This page explores perfume as an artistic composition, in which natural materials are brought together much as musical notes form a piece of music.
Learning Perfumery
Learning perfumery begins with learning to smell. For decades, AbdesSalaam Attar has taught students from around the world through an approach grounded in direct experience with natural fragrant materials, prioritizing the development of olfactory perception over technique. What they say about us
The finest ingredients, a master’s intuition: these are nice concepts, but how does it smell? Gorgeous. Dubrana has a very light touch with heavy scents, a flair for unexpected combinations (tobacco and roses, for example), and a gift for a kind of fragrant profundity that circumvents the usual categories of perfume (candy and flowers, musk and souk, greenery, spice rack) while somehow encompassing them all. – Read more …
My favorites are Arabia (Damascus rose-castoreum), Muschio di Quercia, a dry, uncompromising oakmoss and Legno di Nave, a very nice woody fragrance. All are very skillful, none heavy, trite or overegged. Indeed, many feel surprisingly modern, showing that there may be more life left than I thought in the pre-chemistry tradition… Read more …
Luca Turin Perfume critic – Wikipedia
Mona Lisa smells enticing, like a proper French perfume of old instead of a random mix of natural essences and yet retains a vibrancy that instantly makes you feel good, reassuring, leaning to smell the scent on your arms again and again and again in all stages…
How does Dubrana do it? He doesn’t say. It should remain thus: the enigmatic, sphinx-like smile of Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. Read more …
Elena Vosnaki Editor at Fragrantica – PerfumeShrine blog
The discursive, narrative nature of French-tradition perfumery appears most strongly when experienced in contrast with the work of Dominique Dubrana, a.k.a. Abdes Salam Attar, of Profumo Italia. While I’ve worn several samples of his compositions, they never seem to trigger much discourse, not because there’s nothing to say about them, but because they seem to invite contemplation rather than explanation… Read more …
