Description
Ihram blends the aromas of precious oriental woods in a forest of pine trees.
Ihram is the name of the dress made of 2 simple white sheets that men wear for performing the sacred rites of pilgrimage in Mecca.
I have always been using abundantly this perfume when putting on the dress of Ihram, after the ritual bath of purification. This is where the name comes from. There are several reasons why I chose this perfume over others as a perfume for the Ihram dress.
It is a long-lasting, woody, and warm fragrance that, when worn in very hot weather and especially under the armpits, will develop with your sweat into a musky fragrance that you will find people compliment you for.
This is the strange effect that human pheromones have when mixed with wood essential oils. I have researched the subject in “Human sweat, the last frontier of perfumery“.
The aroma of my perfume “Ihram” is strangely the fragrance of the woody incenses that reaches you from the distant city of Mecca when you walk in the valley of Mina for the rite of stoning the devil during the last days of the pilgrimage.
In the realm of psychology, the effect that Ihram has on us comes directly from the influence that the aromas of the trees have on our psyche. They emanate calm, force, and security, and help us face difficult times without being pulled down by adversities.
From their trunk and branches, dense and persistent essential oils are distilled. They are often used in perfumery to give “body” and persistence to fragrances because their aroma is tenacious and stable with warm lasting notes.
In the same way, in which wood is warm and insulating, the essences of woods reinforce the ability of our body to resist the diseases of cold, and their scent can warm our hearts from the emotional coldness of solitude.
They emanate a feeling of reassuring strength, instill confidence, and stabilize our state of mind, making us raise our heads towards the sky exactly like the heads of the trees do in the forest.
These properties explain why the scents of woods always accompany meditation and prayer in the mysticism of the East.

C’est un boisé sec, nerveux, sans concession, un peu acide au départ, presque amer (vétiver)
Mais, dans le prolongement immédiat, se dégage une note hespéridée très élégante, légèrement citronnée, acidulée (petit-grain, opoponax, élémi, bois de rose, peut-être une pointe de lavande de montagne ?)
La note de base, sèche, évoque le cèdre du Texas ou de Virginie.
La tonalité de fond s’assombrit sur le derme, faisant songer à l’ombrageux cyprès (odeur que j’apprécie beaucoup)
C’est une odeur virile d’alpage, faite pour des hommes d’action, des sportifs, des gens qui apprécient par temps frais la montagne, le camping en plein air.
C’est ce que sentent les forêts en été sur les hauts plateaux du Nord-Ouest américain (Washington State, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming).

Contains the bitter scent of Vetiver. Very dry and warm wood aroma.
This is the flimsy scent of a forest that has already burned out and dried up and a pine that survives alone and stands alone.

Ihram is the scent of a roman abbey hidden in the Provence country; of its pink and ochre walls with pine trees surrounded.
It feels like kneeling on varnished stalls where monks and popes and deacons have sat and amidst the silent solitude of one’s heart, finding a cloister untouched, virgin of all evil – the seat of your soul, the root of the mountain, the silent light which glows at night.

The IHRAM is scent that took me to another dimension, beyond my senses. Simply put, it is sublime and sacred like a sacrament. I am strangely attracted to this otherworldly, and mystical composition of the art of perfume. The AMBER OUD has just the right combination of deep animal notes blended with the aroma of peaceful amber that tempts one to come closer for more, like a magnet.
