Oud Attar

How Oud Perfume is made

Only a mature fungal infection can produce high-quality agarwood and trees that are more than 50 years old have the desirable ability to produce superior quality agarwood. Even though the infection occurs in a tree as early as 5 to 6 years of age, it takes around 10 years in total to produce good quality agarwood. Besides, many countries consider these old wild trees as threatened species.

Oud Perfumes

Oud is derived from the wood of agar tree (Aquilaria malaccensis) that typically grows in Southeast Asian countries. When a specific mold infection occurs in the wood, the plant excretes a resinous substance that is dark and highly scented. This resin is often called "black gold" or "liquid gold". The term "Oud" refers to both the resinous dark wood and the liquid oil distilled from it.
