on the group these last few days there has been a discussion of masculine and feminine oils….. a member inquiring if there was such a thing … for which I responded
‘It’s not such a daft question ……. many plants are spoken of as male
or female plant of the species…… has there been a study of the
nuances of odour from this..ie odour from the female plant from the male
etc………………..twould be an interesting research……’There has subsequently other interesting posts about clothing and colour plus male and female plants producing and the latin botany examples beautifully described.
which leads me to think on …. if plants pollinate to reproduce and we as humans inseminate to reproduce…and the male and female of the homosapien type have distinctive odours for their sex …. then is it possible that the plant species also give a different odour classification to whether they are the male or female plant of the species… beyond the normal differentiations of harvest, distillation techniques, climate, geographical region? Could this be a criterion when some oils smell so completely different of the same species. I hope I’m making sense.

Little is known about comunication between plants and the existence of aromatic comunication is not to be excluded, but the most evident aspect of olfactory comunication that we can witness is the one taking place between vegetal and animal kingdom and particularly with the insect species which play a major role in the reproducing process of plants.AbdesSalaam Attar
