Description
The tincture is obtained by infusing the raw civet paste into pure organic undenatured alcohol at 96°.
The African Civet (from the Arabic Zabad) is a small animal from the mongoose family that looks very much like a cat. Like cats, the civet is easily domesticated. It is primarily nocturnal and spends the day sleeping in dense vegetation. The mammal is awake at sunset.
Civet tincture is obtained through the purification of the animal’s perineal secretion (civet musk paste) in alcohol. The Civet sprays the product on trunks and on stones of his territory, in order to signal its presence to rivals and to females.
Its odor really seems fecal at first approach and even smells of well-seasoned cheese, if it is of good quality, but its olfactory exploration reveals a world of deep emotions, underlying notes of leather, musk, and delicate flower-like tones.
The scent of a woman! It opens the heart of man to the feminine essence of life. It is very animal, erotic, heart-filling, deeply fascinating, and very much unlike any idea one may have about perfume.
The last note comes after a few days on the perfumer’s strip and lasts as much as 2 months on these; it is exactly like the smell of Ambrette.
However, it does not last on the skin more than botanical essences such as Ylang Ylang or Vetyver.
The prophet Muhammad counseled the perfumistas of his time not to despise the scent of Civet. The raw paste is still used to this day in Arabia and in Africa in traditional cures for grave hormonal dysfunction in women.
A man who wears it emanates an aura that brings about respect from other men. This is because of the effect that predators have always provoked on men, being a possible prey. Whoever smelled the cage of the lion will recognize the similarity with the civet scent.
Whenever I have to go to the police offices I wear a Civet just under my chin. They never take me lightly.
Although civet is a feminine animal scent, a man wearing it will raise interest in women, because of their sensibility to the very physical effect that pheromones have.
It is a conquering scent and its effect is exploited in a very civilized way in the perfume “Tartar leather“.
The Civet is a feminine scent, like Ambergris and Hyraceum, while Muskdeer and particularly the beaver’s Castoreum with its massive and strong smell is essentially male.

Carlos –
I received this tincture as a gift after a short delay with my order as sign of apology. At first it smelled putrid, and very fecal, but some months later i decided to test it again, and i cannot blame it on fatigue since I have not used any aromatic oils in all day, but I applied it and 5 literally minutes later I was trying to find that putrid note, but it was not there.
I kept on sniffing, and sniffing, and at best what I pick up is not disagreeable, but more like a cheese that has been left in the sun, and like it was layered at the very bottom I can pick up a very unique sweetness, and besides that like in a different space a smell that the best I can describe it as is a very concentrated flower bouquet, identified to my nose, as being liquid and concentrated.
I have never experienced such a thing. And this is all by itself.
I cannot imagine the magic it has in blends.
I do not need to recommend it, my experience speaks for itself.

The ambergris and civet arrived today – they are sublime. The civet is particularly fierce.
