Persona seemed too strong to me at first, but it’s grown on me over time and I keep returning to it, each time appreciating it even more. This is a great “classic” men’s perfume – reminds me of my grandfather with a lot of those vintage barbershop notes. It certainly is a very outdoorsy smell, but I would describe it more as a stroll along a river since there is a strong aquatic presence in addition to the fresh, green notes, so it’s not a typical “forest” scent.
On me it’s a fresh, green and creamy fragrance, a beautiful juxtaposition. Among other notes and associations I get whiffs of vetiver, pine, basil, citrus (neroli?) and castoreum, along with gentle smoky notes. There is a generous portion of castoreum here, which rounds out the edges and together with other creamy notes keeps Persona from being too sharp, but doesn’t stop it from retaining those refreshing sour green notes long into the drydown. Together with certain aspects of neroli and vetiver it also provides a subtle leathery backbone to the entire composition. Because of its composition, Persona wears fairly similarly year-round and is in my opinion suitable for all seasons.
A very relaxed, refreshing and calming fragrance, one of those that fit any occasion with ease. Vetiver lovers will get what they want here, but certainly not only that.
Diamondflame –
For those who have tried natural botanicals, they don’t always smell ‘natural’. Credit still has to go to the perfumer for mixing in just the right amount of natural ingredients to create the desired impressions. If the goal here is to recreate a harmonious scent reminiscent of a cool brisk morning hike up a forested trail, then I think Salaam has delivered. I was hardly surprised to discover later that PERSONA was actually a bespoke formulation for a guy who loves nature!
On my skin, this is mostly a cool grassy vetiver and creamy sandalwood, with citrus-woodsy undertones, presumably from high grade neroli. The bracing lift from frankincense and petitgrain is most prominent in the first hour, imbuing it with deep dark almost pine-green hues but bow out gracefully as vetiver takes centerstage, combining seamlessly with sandalwood in the base to create an accord that recalls the drydown in Amouage Memoir Man or Xerjoff Modoc. High praise indeed!
Personally, I might have preferred a little more frankincense in it but concede that it could alter the desired first impression. That said, this remains a remarkably calming and contemplative scent, perfect for that affable down-to-earth personality.

Il succitato aforisma di lord Byron, generosamente ampliato da Giuseppe D’Agata, non vuole essere una confessione dello scrivente, ma una semplice introduzione all’atmosfera che suggerisce il profumo recensito.
Un’ascesa mistica, punteggiata di sofferenza:se stessi faticosamente arrancando sulla Settima Cornice del Purgatorio assieme ad un celebrato e famoso poeta fiorentino,o se dovessi scalare il monte Seleya per sottopormi alla disciplina del Kohlinar, non potrei immaginare una fragranza più adatta.(Anche se in entrambi i casi, il profumo sarebbe l’ultima delle preoccupazioni.)
Guardando alla piramide, mi sono reso conto che alcune delle note presenti non le percepisco;penso che sia un limite mio, oppure sono ben amalgamate nell’insieme. Ad ogni modo l’effetto provocato dalle note di Testa,è in qualche modo agro:probabilmente è la somma del Petitgrain e del Neroli impiegati.
Dopo poco la forte presenza agrumata si stempera, anche se ne resta memoria, e l’asprezza lascia spazio
a quello che a me appare come un profumo centrato sul binomio Vetiver-Incenso.
Non avverto nulla di dolce nella progressione;Persona resta amarognolo e secco fino alla fine, senza essere
mai duro o legnoso.
Edit:
Drydown:è ancora molto presente il vetiver, ma adesso è più gentile, senza perdere del tutto la connotazione “ieratica”.
Un poco aspro, un poco impervio ed un poco “solitario” all’inizio, perde in seguito qualcosa di quel carattere
“angoloso” che avverto su di me.
Io non saprei dire perché questa fragranza mi invita alla riflessione su cose come misticismo ed espiazione:
metterla non è di certo un castigo, tutt’altro. Forse è la presenza dell’incenso combinato alle altre note a
darmi queste sensazioni.
Ho reperito altre fragranze dove erano presenti Incenso e Vetiver, ma nessuna di esse mi sa emozionare come il Persona.
