Artemisia vulgaris

Description
Native Americans use many species of the Artemisia family for their purification ceremonies, both alone and with other herbs to purify places and people. Dried plants, usually gathered together in a “smudge stick” deck, are burned to produce smoke and the ceremony is called “fumigation”.
Often the confusion is generated because in America many plants are classified as Sage or Wild Sage (Sagebrush, Artemisia tridentata), even if they belong to a completely different botanical family. (This is one of the reasons why it is important to use the Latin name when buying oils).
In Europe in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, Artemisia was hung in houses to keep the devil away.
Warning: even if the dry grass can be used without problems in the ways described above, the essential oil of Artemisia is dangerous, and should NEVER be used during pregnancy.
