Description

Peru balsam bark extrusion resin, from El Salvador.

Species: Myroxylon peruiferum L. F.

Family: Leguminosae (Papillionaceae)

Class: Benzoic Esters.

This resin has a complex aroma consisting chiefly of cinnamon and vanilla notes with a slight floral character. It has warm, mellow and somewhat spicy aroma.

Actions: stimulant, expectorant, antiseptic, parasiticide.

Indications: used to treat catarrh and chronic bronchitis by lessening mucus secretions; diarrhoea and externally for wounds, ulcers, pruritis, nappy rash, sore nipples, eczema and ringworm. Coronary stimulant.

Cautions: can cause an allergic reaction in some individuals

In aromatherapy, Peru balsam is said to stimulate romance, intimacy, and sexual pleasure.
